Graduation project product design “Seeds of wonder”: rediscover nature.

‘Many people have forgotten about nature or they overlook it, even though it surrounds them daily. Wieteke Opmeer designs products that stimulate people to act differently and, in that way, give back a sense of wonder.

After florist training and education, Wieteke Opmeer studied product design at the Arts Academy in Utrecht. Her fascination for nature brings her to combine both disciplines in new and surprising ways.

This year she graduated with her collection “Seeds of Wonder”, consisting of (amongst other works) a collection of remarkable jewelry and an ecological picnic blanket.

Sowing Jewelry
A series of jewelry of temporary nature, fashioned out of water soluble fabric and seeds of wild flowers, some colored with green tea. The pieces can be worn, but after some time they dissolve slowly by contact with fluids (perspiration, rain, etc.). When one of the necklaces cannot be worn anymore, or when the owner feels the need to part with it, it can be placed on a nice spot in a natural environment. Here it will dissolve. Later, wild flowers will grow on that spot.

Picnic Blanket “Sprout”
When one goes outdoors to enjoy nature, nothing is more rewarding than giving something back. This is the principle behind a double layered ecological blanket for outdoor use. The blanket is made of natural, undyed white felt with a perforation pattern and has a natural rubber coated ecological fabric on the bottom. When the owner is ready to go home and shakes the crums of the rug, wild flower seeds are spread through the perforated top layer into the environment. The rug can be refilled with seedmixture.’

My vision on the world; by YOI:

YOI:

'The deeper meaning behind this blog goes back to my personal vision on the world: 'YOI:'

YOI: is based on the ‘bigger picture’ in which we are on our way to a more beautiful and balanced world wherein sustainable thinking, design, fashion, people and business will make the difference.

In terms of the massive and dramatic environmental/ economic crisis that we are facing, this change is absolutely needed.

Basically the essence of this ‘awareness movement’ takes place in the being and hearts of optimistic but critical thinking people.

To define this particular mind shift I gave this the name/brand ‘YOI:’ As it stands therefore, ‘We’ as human beings are in a conscious global transition.' by Annouk Post
