One of the young tallented presented designers in the Exhibition is Fioen Balgooi with graduation project Refinity. Refinity is a research and consultancy office involved in the working processes of eco-effectiveness; conscious awareness of the fashion industry’s effect on the environment prior to the actual design process. Examples of this have been developed in collaboration with several fashion designers.
This beautiful garment is designed to wear in different ways, based on the idea that you need fewer clothes to create new outfits. Refinity and Berber Soepboer developed an innovative click/fold system that can be used as an alternative for sewing seams. Parts of the garment can be clicked into another’s, which makes it possible to wash or replace components apart from each other. It has been made of C2C wool felt.

In particular, Refinity examines the question: what are the ecological, economic and social-cultural implications of a particular design choice (materials, techniques, color, form, practical usage phase and service)? For the fashion designer this results in applying a different mindset, along with responsible materials and production processes.
Refinity’s goal is to help the fashion designer design eco-effective. Together we build a fashion world that adds enjoyment with respect for every environment.
Now Refinity’s inspiration is called Cradle2Cradle, in the future it might be something else, however there are values that will remain. For example working with closed loop systems and non-toxic materials. We need to continue to work with all the knowledge that is available.
